Overview

The Pharmacy Technician Program provides the fundamental knowledge, skills and training needed for entry-level employment. Students receive training in pharmaceutical calculations and pharmacy practices, operation and management as well as preparation techniques for pharmaceutical products. Upon successful completion of this 4-month program, students receive a Pharmacy Technician Certificate and are registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy. Students are then eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination (PTCE) and may become a Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician.

In 2016, North Central Kansas Technical College Pharmacy Technician program added a retail simulation lab committed to improving the value of pharmacy technician education and enhanced clinical skills. To facilitate the advanced pharmacy simulation training, NCKTC and  PioneerRx have partnered to give students hands-on experience filling prescriptions, assessing appropriateness and safety of medication, understanding medication adherence through medication synchronization, collecting medication history, providing medication education, and focusing on clinical services such as medication therapy management.
